eRegions on the New eAmber and New eSilk Roads Think Tank

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia hosted the eCommerce think-tank on March 9, 2004. That was an informative meeting with the economic counsellors of the Embassies of Central and South Eastern European countries, the USA, China and the delegation of the European Commission to Slovenia. The Foreign Ministry organised the meeting in cooperation with the eCommerce Center of the University of Maribor’s Faculty of Organizational Sciences. The purpose of the meeting was to present the initiative to develop an eRegion in the area of Central and South Eastern Europe and to promote the 17th International eCommerce Conference, “eGlobal – A Network for the Development of an eRegion”, to be held at Bled, Slovenia, from 21-23 June 2004. As it seems, the term »eRegion« was publically used in that meeting for the first time.

An accelerated development of numerous activities along the New Silk Road is opening-up new opportunities and new tasks for the organizations of all types. A higher level of cross-border eCollaboration is required in order for the regions to catch-up with the development.

On October 10, 2015, the eRegions Think Tank: eRegions on the New eAmber and New eSilk Roads has been formed. It will build upon the joint academic-business-government activities related to the New Silk Road  since 2002 and the collected experience during a decade. For example, two meetings of the Bled eConference:

2007 eSilk & eAmber Roads Innovative Regions Think Tank: Business and Government Executives & Professors’ Commitment To Making A Difference.
2008 eSilk & eAmber Roads Innovative Regions Think Tank: Business and Government Executives & Professors’ Commitment To Making A Difference.

In June and September of 2010, there were two meetings in the European Parliament: European Initiative Danube Region on the eSilk & eAmber Roads.

Among other things, the Think Tank will be involved in the program preparations of the 6th eRegions Conference: Cross-border eSolutions & eServices Prototypes Development . The conference will be taking place in Ljubljana, Slovenia on September 19-20, 2016.

Addressing the cross-border problems and considerations of possible solutions will be in the interest of the Think Tank. For example, in transport, mobility and logistics in the region and between the regions.

One of the topics to be discussed within the Think Tank will be the undergraduate and graduate students and their instructors engagement in innovative cross-border eSolutions and eServices prototypes development in cooperation with the organizations – prototype recipients in at least two countries. It will be a follow-up of the DeRC2015 preconference meeting Regional SAP University Alliance Meeting with Extended Invitation to Rectors & Deans in the Danube Region. The experience was very encouraging.

The eRegions Think Tank is expressing interest in interlinking with the Think Tanks of a similar nature being active on the New eAmber and New eSilk Roads.

The eRegions Think Tank Meeting is in the Castle Jable nr. Ljubljana on Tuesday, March 15, 2016.
